The Crowd Went Wild For Hatsune Miku, The Virtual Anime Pop Star

http://kotaku.com/the-crowd-went-wild-for-hatsune-miku-the-virtual-anime-1773633946

When watching The Disappearing of Hatsune Miku,  I found myself thinking about the future of AI. One possible future, is that AI's remain merely powerful tools due to a lack of reason to ever make them something more. This could result in a world run by robots designed to keep it all running smoothly and efficiently, with no real minds of their own. A world where only a small fraction of the population has the drive and ability to understand and alter the AIs, and the vast majority of the population remains content enough that the status quo never gets challenged.

If those who do alter the AIs are selfish and short sighted, the system would slowly degrade and fall apart. If they coordinate their efforts, and share a mono-culture (indoctrinating newcomers), they could create a stable and stagnant world in which they wield unchallenged power. If they remain diverse in ideas and priorities, only then will great progress continue to be made, as they recklessly drive their ambitions in different directions.

I often find it amazing just how big EVE Online is. Alliances that contain thousands of players fighting over territory and pride.
