I believe the basic key to making a better world, is learning how to make all exchanges net positive (more is created than lost). This generally means giving things you are happy to give, and not giving when it costs you more than they gain.
Unfortuneately, this first requires people to get a better understanding of what their needs actually are, so they can avoid asking for things that won't really improve their lives, and avoid giving up things that will really hurt them. Plus, learning how to communicate needs effectively will be a big part of learning what to give, and what not to give.
